The "M5011" incorporates modern sculptural beauty into the rimless design that is a MATSUDA specialty.

The newly developed hexagon shape is characterized by a linear outline that gently flares toward the outer corners of the eyes. Within its lightweight structure that lacks a front rim, the lens cut itself creates a refined presence, bringing a sharp and intellectual impression to the wearer's expression.

The metal parts placed throughout, starting with the titanium bridge supporting the front, feature intricate engravings by artisans in Sabae. The delicate ornamentation stands out against the negative space unique to rimless eyewear, reflecting the precision craftsmanship characteristic of MATSUDA, even within its minimalist aesthetic.

The temples are crafted from three-dimensionally milled Japanese acetate. The contrast between the sharp metal and the thick acetate creates a well-balanced presence.

The BG-NVY colorway is a combination that pairs brushed gold metal parts with deep navy acetate temples. The muted gold and navy harmonize naturally, creating an elegant and sophisticated look.

The lenses feature a blue-gray tint. They blend naturally with the gold and navy tones while accentuating the sharp contours of the hexagon shape, resulting in a refined and polished piece.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1989 by fashion brand “NICOLE” founder Mitsuhiro Matsuda, a designer who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s as one of the “Top Designer Six (TD6).”

Drawing on the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated as a fashion designer, the brand fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining highly advanced craftsmanship by skilled Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, MATSUDA creates eyewear with the meticulousness of art pieces and an overwhelming presence.

The brand is characterized by delicate metalwork and a profound, three-dimensional structural expression. Its original designs, reminiscent of Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk, have earned high acclaim worldwide not merely as vision correction devices, but as “wearable art pieces.”

In the 1990s, the brand gained strong support overseas after being worn by Hollywood movie stars and renowned artists. Its unique worldview and overwhelming sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, propelling the name MATSUDA to global recognition.

Although the brand was temporarily suspended afterward, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. While inheriting the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, it now develops collections that incorporate contemporary sensibilities.

Unswayed by the times or trends, MATSUDA continues to uphold its unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and fashion culture, continues to captivate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
