The "M1028" combines the imposing presence of 10mm-thick Japanese acetate with delicate decorative beauty.

The lenses feature "JG BLUE" glass, crafted by Osaka Gankyo Glass, established in 1942.

Characterized by a deep blue hue, these lenses offer a visible light transmittance of 24%. They reduce glare even in bright environments, providing a calm and clear field of vision.

The unique transparency and beautiful color achieved through precision glass materials and proprietary coloring technology are hallmark qualities of these glass lenses. The deep blue adds an accent to the M1028's black and smoke-gray frame, creating a sophisticated impression amidst its substantial feel.

This special combination, which fuses MATSUDA’s refined decorative beauty with the glass manufacturing expertise cultivated by Osaka Gankyo Glass, allows you to enjoy the inherent appeal of the materials themselves.

The square shape with gently rounded corners offers a soft impression within its bold design, ensuring a comfortable fit on the face despite its thick, voluminous rims. This balanced yet impactful design reflects the unique aesthetic sensibility of MATSUDA.

The engraving on the temple core and hinges features the brand’s iconic, intricate detailing, showcasing the artisan’s dedication to craftsmanship in every detail. The harmony between the substantial acetate frame and the delicate metal embellishments creates a unique presence where ruggedness and elegance coexist.

Col. SMGR features a subtle, playful color scheme with black on the front and a soft smoke gray on the back. This pairing, which changes its appearance depending on the angle, allows the gentleness of the smoke gray to blend into the sharp, defined look of the black. It strikes an exquisite balance that hides a sense of lightness within its heaviness, adding a subtle touch of personality and sophistication to your attire.

This piece is a fusion of voluminous sculptural beauty, meticulous craftsmanship, and depth of color. It is a model that embodies the traditional techniques and artistry cultivated by MATSUDA through a modern sensibility.

Patterns and colours may vary slightly between individual frames and from the images shown.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1989 by fashion brand “NICOLE” founder Mitsuhiro Matsuda, a designer who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s as one of the “Top Designer Six (TD6).”

Drawing on the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated as a fashion designer, the brand fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining highly advanced craftsmanship by skilled Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, MATSUDA creates eyewear with the meticulousness of art pieces and an overwhelming presence.

The brand is characterized by delicate metalwork and a profound, three-dimensional structural expression. Its original designs, reminiscent of Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk, have earned high acclaim worldwide not merely as vision correction devices, but as “wearable art pieces.”

In the 1990s, the brand gained strong support overseas after being worn by Hollywood movie stars and renowned artists. Its unique worldview and overwhelming sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, propelling the name MATSUDA to global recognition.

Although the brand was temporarily suspended afterward, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. While inheriting the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, it now develops collections that incorporate contemporary sensibilities.

Unswayed by the times or trends, MATSUDA continues to uphold its unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and fashion culture, continues to captivate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
