The "M5006" elevates the structure of rimless eyewear born in the late 19th century into a contemporary pair of sunglasses through MATSUDA's signature intricate metalwork.

The front features a two-point structure with compact 46mm hexagonal lenses. Because it lacks a rim, the contour of the lens itself becomes the shape of the frame, where the linear hexagon creates a composed individuality amidst a lightweight aesthetic.

The metal parts are crafted from lightweight titanium, while the temples utilize flexible beta-titanium. The bridge is adorned with fine engravings, and the top and bottom of the temples feature hand-carved decorations. Furthermore, the surface is finished with a transparent luster, creating an effect with depth reminiscent of stained glass.

While the impression from the front is sharp and refined, the design reveals the meticulous decoration characteristic of MATSUDA when viewed from the side.

The AG color is a deep antique gold. It harmonizes beautifully with the classical rimless structure and delicate engravings, adding a poised elegance to the face.

The lens color is a subdued sage green. It blends naturally with the antique gold, enhancing the classical aesthetic.

Despite the layering of decorations, the overall impression remains light. This is a quintessential MATSUDA piece that highlights the beauty of the lens shape and metal ornamentation within the clarity unique to rimless eyewear.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1989 by fashion brand “NICOLE” founder Mitsuhiro Matsuda, a designer who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s as one of the “Top Designer Six (TD6).”

Drawing on the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated as a fashion designer, the brand fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining highly advanced craftsmanship by skilled Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, MATSUDA creates eyewear with the meticulousness of art pieces and an overwhelming presence.

The brand is characterized by delicate metalwork and a profound, three-dimensional structural expression. Its original designs, reminiscent of Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk, have earned high acclaim worldwide not merely as vision correction devices, but as “wearable art pieces.”

In the 1990s, the brand gained strong support overseas after being worn by Hollywood movie stars and renowned artists. Its unique worldview and overwhelming sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, propelling the name MATSUDA to global recognition.

Although the brand was temporarily suspended afterward, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. While inheriting the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, it now develops collections that incorporate contemporary sensibilities.

Unswayed by the times or trends, MATSUDA continues to uphold its unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and fashion culture, continues to captivate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
