The "M2079" features a classic Wellington shape, a style surprisingly absent from previous MATSUDA models.

Combining straight lines with gentle curves in perfect balance, this authentic Wellington shape is resistant to shifting trends and designed to blend naturally into your everyday style. While it possesses a pleasing presence, it remains versatile and unpretentious, making it a pair you will want to reach for every day, whether for work or leisure.

The front is crafted in a subdued matte gray stone. By pairing the soft gray hue with antique silver metal components, the design achieves a chic overall tone while creating depth through the contrast of materials and textures.

The front corners feature distinctive rivet embellishments that give the M2079 its striking character. These accents provide a sophisticated touch to the basic Wellington shape, adding the unique individuality expected of MATSUDA without feeling overly simplistic.

The temples are designed with a slightly thicker profile and are luxuriously adorned with delicate engravings, ensuring a commanding presence when viewed from the side. Furthermore, the inclusion of spring hinges allows the temples to flex comfortably, ensuring a flexible fit for various face widths.

It is precisely because of this classic shape that MATSUDA’s meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship truly shine. This eyewear is packed with authentic appeal, ensuring it can be cherished for years to come, regardless of passing trends.

Patterns and colours may vary slightly between individual frames and from the images shown.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand established in 1989 by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, the founder of the fashion brand "NICOLE" and a designer who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s as one of the "Tokyo Designers Six" (TD6).

Grounded in the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated as a fashion designer, the brand fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining the highly skilled handiwork of Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, MATSUDA creates eyewear possessing both the intricate detail of a craft object and an overwhelming sense of presence.

The brand is defined by its delicate metalwork and substantial, three-dimensional structural expressions. Its unique designs—reminiscent of Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk—have earned high acclaim worldwide, transcending the role of mere vision-correction tools to be appreciated as "wearable art."

In the 1990s, the brand gained widespread support abroad after being worn in Hollywood films and by renowned artists. Its distinct worldview and stunning sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, cementing MATSUDA's reputation on the global stage.

Although the brand went on a hiatus, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. Today, it continues to release collections that incorporate modern sensibilities while upholding the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda.

Unswayed by time or trends, MATSUDA remains committed to its own unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese artisanal skill and fashion culture, continues to fascinate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
