MATSUDA "M1042-SUN" brings out the presence of thick acetate through smooth cutting.

Finished in a square shape with gentle curves, this model has a classic look reminiscent of 1950s eyewear.

The thick front is three-dimensionally carved from the surface to the sides, creating rich shadows depending on the viewing angle. While it has a bold design with a striking outline, the gently refined lines prevent it from feeling too heavy, resulting in a well-balanced fit that suits the face.

In addition, the silver-colored metal parts, such as the temple cores and hinges, are adorned with MATSUDA's signature exquisite engravings. These details are faintly visible through the clear material, adding a subtle artisanal charm to the minimalist celluloid frame.

Color BGN is a deep bottle green. When it catches the light, a transparent green appears vividly, giving the thick frame depth and a subdued elegance. Paired with blue-gray lenses, it adds a cool nuance to the rich green, completing the sophisticated color scheme.

Made using high-quality Japanese acetate, each pair is carefully shaped and polished one by one by artisans in Sabae. It is a pair of MATSUDA sunglasses that harmonizes bold volume with delicate details.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1989 by fashion brand “NICOLE” founder Mitsuhiro Matsuda, a designer who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s as one of the “Top Designer Six (TD6).”

Drawing on the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated as a fashion designer, the brand fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining highly advanced craftsmanship by skilled Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, MATSUDA creates eyewear with the meticulousness of art pieces and an overwhelming presence.

The brand is characterized by delicate metalwork and a profound, three-dimensional structural expression. Its original designs, reminiscent of Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk, have earned high acclaim worldwide not merely as vision correction devices, but as “wearable art pieces.”

In the 1990s, the brand gained strong support overseas after being worn by Hollywood movie stars and renowned artists. Its unique worldview and overwhelming sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, propelling the name MATSUDA to global recognition.

Although the brand was temporarily suspended afterward, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. While inheriting the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, it now develops collections that incorporate contemporary sensibilities.

Unswayed by the times or trends, MATSUDA continues to uphold its unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and fashion culture, continues to captivate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
