The MATSUDA "M1042" showcases the presence of thick acetate through smooth cutting.

Finished in a square shape with gentle curves, this model has a classic look reminiscent of 1950s eyewear.

The thick front is three-dimensionally carved from the surface to the sides, creating rich shadows depending on the viewing angle. While it has a bold design with a striking outline, the gently refined lines prevent it from feeling too heavy, resulting in a well-balanced fit that suits the face.

In addition, the silver-colored metal parts, such as the temple cores and hinges, are adorned with MATSUDA's signature exquisite engravings. The decorations stand out against the vivid contrast with the black celluloid material, adding an artisanal expression to the side profile against the minimalist appearance from the front.

Color BLK-S is a glossy black. It tightens the contours and three-dimensional cutting of the thick frame, further highlighting the M1042's sense of weight. With its neat coloring that suppresses color and pattern, it brings the striking silhouette together with an urban and sophisticated impression.

Made using high-quality Japanese acetate, each pair is carefully shaped and polished one by one by craftsmen in Sabae. It is a model unique to MATSUDA, harmonizing bold volume with delicate details.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1989 by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, the founder of the fashion brand “NICOLE” and one of the “Top Designers Six (TD6)” who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s.

Drawing on the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated during his career as a fashion designer, Matsuda fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining the exquisite craftsmanship of skilled Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, the brand creates eyewear with the meticulous detail and commanding presence of works of art.

The brand is defined by delicate metalwork and substantial, three-dimensional construction. Its original designs, evoking Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk, transcend mere vision correction to earn worldwide acclaim as “wearable art.”

In the 1990s, the brand gained widespread international support after being worn by Hollywood movie stars and renowned artists. Its distinctive worldview and striking sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, propelling MATSUDA to global prominence.

Although the brand was temporarily suspended, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. Carrying forward the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, the brand now offers collections that incorporate a contemporary sensibility.

Unswayed by the passage of time or prevailing trends, MATSUDA remains steadfast in its unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and fashion culture, continues to captivate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
