The "M1028" combines the substantial presence created by 10 mm-thick Japanese acetate with delicate decorative beauty.

The square shape with gently rounded corners conveys a soft impression despite its boldness, and while featuring a voluminous thick frame, it also fits the face comfortably. The striking yet balanced design reflects MATSUDA's unique aesthetic.

The metal cores and hinges inside the temples feature intricate engravings that embody the brand's signature craftsmanship, showcasing the artisans' aesthetic down to the finest details. The delicate metal decorations harmonize with the substantial acetate frame, creating a distinctive presence where ruggedness and elegance coexist.

Col. DPL features an impressive deep purple color. It is an exquisite shade that is not as stark as black, yet possesses a quiet allure distinct from navy. It subtly changes expression depending on the light, adding a touch of individuality to its composed appearance.

A pair that fuses sculptural volume, meticulous craftsmanship, and a rich, deep color. This model embodies the traditional techniques and artistry MATSUDA has cultivated through a contemporary lens.

About the brand
Brand logo
MATSUDA is a luxury eyewear brand founded in 1989 by fashion brand “NICOLE” founder Mitsuhiro Matsuda, a designer who led the Japanese fashion scene in the 1980s as one of the “Top Designer Six (TD6).”

Drawing on the aesthetic sensibilities cultivated as a fashion designer, the brand fuses classic, avant-garde, and architectural elements. By combining highly advanced craftsmanship by skilled Japanese artisans with carefully selected materials such as titanium and acetate, MATSUDA creates eyewear with the meticulousness of art pieces and an overwhelming presence.

The brand is characterized by delicate metalwork and a profound, three-dimensional structural expression. Its original designs, reminiscent of Victorian culture, Art Deco, and even steampunk, have earned high acclaim worldwide not merely as vision correction devices, but as “wearable art pieces.”

In the 1990s, the brand gained strong support overseas after being worn by Hollywood movie stars and renowned artists. Its unique worldview and overwhelming sculptural beauty captivated many celebrities and fashion icons, propelling the name MATSUDA to global recognition.

Although the brand was temporarily suspended afterward, it was revived in 2011 by a new design team. While inheriting the philosophy and craftsmanship established by Mitsuhiro Matsuda, it now develops collections that incorporate contemporary sensibilities.

Unswayed by the times or trends, MATSUDA continues to uphold its unique aesthetic. Its eyewear, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and fashion culture, continues to captivate eyewear enthusiasts around the world.
