Known as the author of Victor Hugo, the writer behind Les Misérables, Victor Hugo was a poet and novelist who represented French literature. He led the Romantic movement and had a profound influence on politics and society. The model name “HUGO” pays tribute to his ideas and strong individuality.

Made from 8 mm-thick acetate, this model highlights the distinctive sculptural beauty of the crown-panto shape. Sharp, precisely cut edges across the entire front create a striking presence despite its compact 42 mm size.

Meanwhile, the lower rims and lens shape are defined by soft, rounded lines, adding an intelligent, composed feel to its bold character. Its compact size keeps it from making too strong a statement, resulting in a refined, well-balanced design that’s easy to wear.

The hinges are made of brass, a material widely used in vintage eyewear. The patina that deepens with wear is another pleasure unique to this model. At the joint, the frame and hinges are assembled and then bevel-cut together in a sophisticated process—an impressive testament to the craftspeople’s skill in seamlessly finishing materials of differing hardness.

The nuanced, clear acetate in Vintage Lavender lends a soft touch to the wearer’s expression. Its classic yet striking color combines a subtle individuality with a subdued tone.

Patterns and colours may vary slightly between individual frames and from the images shown.

About the brand
Brand logo
Founded in 1921 in Oyonnax, in the Jura region of France. Oyonnax was renowned as a center for comb manufacturing; when celluloid became widespread, Max Pittion converted his father's comb factory into an eyewear factory called "Pittion Lunetterie" and established the brand.

Dedicated to quality and unique coloring, he grew the company into a world-class eyewear manufacturer within a single generation. He was also involved in the founding of the SILMO international optical fair, leaving a significant impact on the eyewear industry.

In the 1960s and 70s, the sophisticated designs of MAX PITTION gained popularity among artists and actors, achieving global recognition. However, while at the height of its popularity, the brand announced an indefinite hiatus.

In 2023, his son, Bernard Pittion, entrusted the revival of the brand to Tommy O'Gara of The LIGHT Co., who has faithfully reproduced the original designs.

Since then, craftsmen in Sabae, Fukui, Japan, have been collaborating with a French team to produce the highest quality eyewear.
