Victor Hugo, known as the author of Les Misérables, was a leading poet and novelist in French literature. He spearheaded the Romantic movement and exerted a profound influence on politics and society. The model name “HUGO” pays tribute to the depth of his ideas and his strong individuality.

Crafted from 8 mm-thick acetate, this model accentuates the distinctive sculptural beauty of the crown-panto shape. Sharp, precise cuts across the entire front create a striking presence, even in the compact 42 size.

Meanwhile, the gently rounded lines from the lower rims through to the lens shape lend the design a softer feel, tempering its boldness with a sense of calm. The compact size keeps it from making too strong a statement, while maintaining a flattering, well-balanced look.

The hinges are made of brass, a material often used in vintage eyewear. The patina that deepens with wear is one of this model’s unique pleasures. At the joint, an advanced technique is used to make diagonal cuts through the frame and hinge simultaneously after they have been assembled. This reveals the exceptional craftsmanship required to finish materials of differing hardness as one.

The clear brown acetate adds a soft warmth to HUGO’s substantial design, bringing depth and approachability to your expression. Classic yet lightweight, this is a pair that’s easy to wear every day.

Patterns and colours may vary slightly between individual frames and from the images shown.

About the brand
Brand logo
Founded in 1921 in Oyonnax, in the Jura region of France. Known as a hub for comb production, Oyonnax saw Max Pittion transform his father's comb factory into an eyewear manufacturing facility named "Pittion Lunetterie" once celluloid became widely available, leading to the establishment of his brand.

With a commitment to quality and unique coloring, the company grew into a world-class eyewear manufacturer in a single generation. Max Pittion was also instrumental in the founding of "SILMO," one of the world's largest international eyewear trade fairs, leaving a significant impact on the subsequent eyewear industry.

In the 1960s and 70s, the sophisticated designs of MAX PITTION gained popularity among artists and actors, achieving global recognition. However, the brand announced a temporary hiatus at the peak of its success.

In 2023, his son, Bernard Pittion, entrusted the revival of the brand to Tommy O'Gara of The LIGHT Co., Ltd., faithfully reproducing the original designs.

Since then, Japanese artisans in Sabae, Fukui, have been collaborating with the French team to produce eyewear of the highest quality.
