Japan is home to several world-leading eyewear brands. Among them, "MATSUDA" boasts high quality and continues to captivate fashion enthusiasts around the world.
It was born in 1989 by fashion designer Mitsuhiro Matsuda, who is also known for his work at Paris Fashion Week and as one of the founders of Tokyo Fashion Week.
The manufacturing base is Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture, one of Japan's leading eyewear production areas. The techniques of skilled artisans are incorporated into the frame-making process.
The history of eyewear frame manufacturing in Fukui Prefecture is said to have begun in 1905 in Ikuno, Asotsume Village, Fukui District (now Ikuno-cho, Fukui City), when Gozaemon Masunaga and his younger brother Koya introduced it as a means for farming families to secure income during the winter off-season.
In the 1980s, it was the first in the world to commercialize and produce frames made of titanium, establishing its position as a global eyewear production center.
Eyewear made in Sabae is known for its consistently high quality. In particular, the intricate designs and craftsmanship of "MATSUDA" are supported by a very small number of factories and limited artisans.

The original frames used alloy, but the reissue has been updated to titanium. In addition to lightening the overall frame, the wearing comfort has also been greatly improved.
