JACQUES MARIE MAGE (JMM) is a Los Angeles-based eyewear brand founded by Jerome Mage in 2014. It is characterized by three-dimensional designs carved from thick acetate and intricate metal ornamentation. Their commitment to craftsmanship is also reflected in their small-batch, limited production.

The first collection in the spring of 2015 began with four acetate models handcrafted by Japanese artisans. Drawing inspiration from vintage eyewear, cinema, and art, each piece is meticulously crafted down to the contours, volume, and detailed finishes. Its charm is apparent not only from the front but also from the side profile.

In this feature, we introduce four models—ZEPHIRIN, ALDO, FELLINI, and LECLAIR—that you will want to incorporate into your autumn wardrobe. In the season of knits and jackets, consider glasses with deeper colors or more defined contours. While each embodies the essence of JMM, they offer distinct expressions when worn.

ZEPHIRIN

Zephirin

Compact contours with rich depth

ZEPHIRIN is one of the signature JMM models that has continued since the first collection in 2015. It features a compact size inspired by pre-WWII eyewear. The ZEPHIRIN 44 we are introducing here pairs a 44mm lens with a rounded square contour.

Its appeal lies in how it keeps the front lines looking clean despite using thick acetate. The central keyhole bridge adds a classic expression, while ample depth is maintained on the sides. It is a piece where you can enjoy the contrast between the compact front and the three-dimensional temples.

Bourbon is a translucent brown with a reddish tint. It features a streaky pattern of light and dark, and the amber tones stand out when hit by light. As it is coordinated in monochrome with matching brown lenses, you can feel the depth of color even within its small shape.

For autumn, try styling it with an oatmeal knit or brown tweed. Matching the colors of your clothing and glasses creates a natural cohesion, allowing the luster of the frame to stand out against the soft knit texture. This is a model you will want to reach for when you want to gently incorporate the presence of JMM into your daily attire.

ALDO

Aldo

Bold volume as the star of your autumn look

If you enjoy volume that leaves a lasting impression at a glance, look no further than ALDO. It is an oversized model inspired by 1970s eyewear, combining 52mm lenses and a 23mm bridge with a shape that also has vertical depth.

Chamfering on the top of the brow. The light-catching surfaces shift, creating shadows on the black frame.

What is noteworthy is the chamfering along the brow line. By carving into the 10mm-thick acetate and combining flat and angled surfaces, it gives the front a three-dimensional feel. It looks bold from the front, while the sharpness of the cuts stands out from the side. The design changes its impression depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

Bloodstone is a colorway based in black, with burgundy layered on the inner side of the temples. Through the clear layer on the front, you can see the metal core with its finely engraved lines. While this is a model that draws attention to its large front, there is also plenty to enjoy in its side profile and when you take the glasses off.

We recommend pairing this with a thick turtleneck or a loose wool coat. Adding volume to your clothing really makes the thickness of the frames pop. By keeping the color palette focused on black or charcoal, you can create a striking look through the strength of the contours rather than relying on a high number of colors.

FELLINI

Fellini

A refined square with cinematic glamour

Named as an homage to Italian film director Federico Fellini, FELLINI is a model that combines a horizontal square base with a powerful brow line and three-dimensional temples. With 51mm lenses and a 20mm bridge, it offers a refined front contour.

While ALDO makes an impression with thick rims and large-scale construction, FELLINI’s appeal lies in the beauty of its horizontally extended lines. The arrow-head parts at both ends of the front tighten the look around the eyes, while the wide temples provide solid support on the sides. Among classic shapes, the straight lines and metal ornamentation stand out beautifully.

Walnut is a colorway that pairs a deep brown frame with warm, orange-toned lenses. A gold-colored core peeks out from the side of the subdued front. It is a combination that allows you to enjoy both the understated elegance of the front and the glamour of the profile.

This autumn, we suggest pairing these with a navy jacket or a shirt with a fine pattern. Adding tinted lenses to tailored clothing creates a slightly relaxed atmosphere. It is also recommended to pair them with a beige coat to bring out the warmth of the brown and orange tones.

LECLAIR

Leclair

Sharp contours in a warm tortoiseshell pattern

LECLAIR features a Wellington shape reminiscent of the 1950s. The linear brow and contours that taper slightly downward make the eye area look sharp. While the lens width is compact at 45mm, the wider bridge width of 26mm gives the overall balance a sense of horizontal ease.

A contrast of reddish brown and amber. You can see the depth of the pattern within the thick acetate.

Compared to the small ZEPHIRIN, LECLAIR has a more angular and linear expression. The front, carved from 10mm-thick acetate, makes the contours look sharp while retaining thickness on the sides. This is a shape you will be drawn to when you want a bit more defined presence than your usual Wellington.

BRECCIA is a tortoiseshell pattern that mixes reddish brown with amber. The contrast between the dark areas and the light-filtering parts gives the frame depth. Because the eyes are visible through the light brown lenses, the linear design is softened with a gentler expression.

It pairs well with olive shirts, ecru knits, and corduroy jackets. The reddish tortoiseshell adds warmth to the muted colors of autumn. Whether you want to sharpen a casual outfit or wear a jacket with a sense of ease, this is a pair you will find yourself reaching for naturally.

The compact ZEPHIRIN, the bold ALDO, the refined and glamorous FELLINI, and the sharp LECLAIR. While imagining your favorite knits and coats, try searching for your perfect pair this autumn.
